FREE FONT!

The font ITC Serif Gothic (Heavy or Black) is a classic font from the 1970s. Used in the title card for the original Halloween, it became the go-to font for many horror films and books. After rewatching the Halloween films this past October, I realized something interesting (if you’re a font nerd). The font is slightly different for the original film compared to all the sequels. As it turns out, as fonts were digitized in the late 80s and into the 90s, sometimes alternate letterforms were not added into the mix. Below, you can see the complete font as it was originally intended. The readily available ITC Serif Gothic does not contain the alternate letter forms.

After securing a set of old school Letraset letters, I was able to scan and recreate the alternate letter forms. I also decided to adjust the numbers to match those used on screen for the Halloween sequel title cards. This font, HELL-A-WEEN is free as a supplement to the original ITC Serif Gothic.
